Emerging Schools Rugby Work Experience
London Leisure College students had the chance to carry out work experience with a former student. Dan Buckland was a former NCQ Level 2 in Activity Leadership student at London Leisure College. He now works for the governing body of Rugby Union as a Community Rugby Coach in Lewisham.
Dan was running an ‘emerging schools’ rugby tournament for year 8’s and invited a selection of boys down to Well Hall to help deliver the tournament. It was a great opportunity for the boys to see how a professional coach works and a chance for them to mix with local schools, some of which the boys used to attend. It was also a great chance for the boys to see where their qualifications can take them.
Their role was to assist in the smooth running of the tournament, this ranged from refereeing, to coaching and managing the teams into the correct place at the right time. Everyone enjoyed themselves and best of all, a group of young children got to experience rugby and London Leisure College helped to facilitate this.
The day was a big success and Dan invited the boys back a week later to help in running a year 9 tournament with the same schools.
