British Colleges of Sport South-Eastern 5 Aside football Tournament
For the second year running London Leisure College and The David Beckham Academy hosted the BCS South East Region annual 5 aside football tournament. Colleges were present from all over the region with 34 teams competing altogether.
Mens
London Leisure College’s first pool game was against Goddalming College, after taking an early lead the visitors managed to deny our boys an opening victory with a late strike. Peter Symonds College was our next opponent, Andre Tawio opened the scoring for LLC and this time we were able to hold on for the victory. The final group game came against Richmond College (a team we have beaten in 11 aside this season) and victory would guarantee progression into the next round. Unfortunately and early strike by Danny Wilkins was cancelled out by Richmond and we had to rely on goal difference to secure progression. A tough quarter final draw against Taunton College in the quarter final was a game too far, but the boys should be proud of what they achieved, as Taunton were overall winners.
Ladies
The Women’s pool games were a repeat of the men’s fixtures although the results were more positive. A gentle start against Goddalming was rewarded with a 2-nil victory. With Natalie Crinean on form, the second match was won easily courtesy of Natalie grabbing a superb hat trick. The final group match followed a similar pattern and the girls walked away with another 3-nil win and topped their group undefeated. In the quarter finals the girls continued their good form and scored two unanswered goals against Taunton College. A semi final tie was the next hurdle for the girls. It wasn’t until the last minute of a very tough game, in which Billie-Dee pulled off some great saves, that Jenny Newman scored a late goal to book an appearance in the final of the competition for the Leisure College. Kingston in the final was a tough ask for the girls, and so it proved. The game was settled by a single goal scored after some great passing by Kingston, and the first that LLC had conceded all day. The girls play Kingston in 2 weeks time so there will be plenty of chance for revenge.
