Leading to the Active IQ level 3 Certificate in Pool Plant Operations

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

This course is the essential technical qualification for staff involved in day-to-day pool plant operation or those responsible for plant management. It provides an industry recognised benchmark qualification for those involved in or responsible for the management of a complex pool water treatment plant.

ARE THERE ANY PRE-REQUISITES?

Anyone wishing to undertake the National Pool Plant Operators Certificate course should be able to demonstrate:

  • Working knowledge of a plant room
  • Knowledge and basic understanding of pool water treatment
  • Able to competently carry out the standard range of water tests
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety legislation

The above criteria would be met by having gained the ISRM National Pool Plant Operators Foundation Certificate

Please note: Candidates attending this course without the basic knowledge or experience required will not gain the full benefits offered by the course and will risk the possibility of failing the assessment. No certificates are awarded to candidates who are unsuccessful.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

 

The ISRM National Pool Plant Operators aims to build on the knowledge provided in the Foundation Certificate. By the end of the course successful candidates will be able to demonstrate achievement of the following learning outcomes:

  • The design and operation of their own pool plant including the circulation, filtration, disinfection, pH correction and heating of pool water
  • How to maintain water that is in 'balance' and which is safe and pleasant to swim in
  • The principles of testing poll water and the remedial action required to restore ideal conditions
  • Technical requirements for ensuring safe and efficient operation of pool plant
  • The use of good management and cost effective technologies to save energy

The course provides an industry recognised benchmark qualification for those involved in day-to-day pool plant operation, or responsible for the management of complex pool water treatment plant.

 

All candidates attending the course receive a comprehensive manual covering the following subject areas:

  1. Swimming pool management
  2. Health and safety – the responsibilities of pool operators
  3. Swimming pool hygiene and cleaning
  4. Pollution and infection
  5. Water supplies and treatment
  6. Circulation system
  7. Filtration
  8. Chlorine and hypochlorite chemistry
  9. Disinfection of pool water
  10. pH, alkalinity and balanced water
  11. Water testing and diagnosis
  12. Chemical safety
  13. Chemical delivery and storage
  14. Chemical dosing
  15. Automatic control
  16. Valves
  17. Heating and ventilation
  18. Energy efficient management

HOW IS THE COURSE STRUCTURED?

The course is delivered over 3 days and includes a comprehensive two-stage assessment system.

The first stage of the assessment procedure takes place on the final day of the course, with a three-part written test including a 50 question multiple choice section and two further visual identification questions which test the candidates’ understanding of the key course principles. This written test is assessed externally by ISRM headquarter staff.

Upon returning to their workplaces, candidates then complete a detailed work-based assignment. These assignments are returned to the trainer/assessor for grading and internal verification before ISRM headquarter staff issues certificates.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

This course is full cost and the fee for the course depends on who is paying.

  • If you are paying the fee yourself you are designated as an ‘Individual’.
  • If your employer is paying your fee then you will be designated ‘Employer’.
