CYQ Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training

Who is this course for?

This course is for those who have already achieved the appropriate Level 2 qualification and would like to progress to the next level thereby increasing their employment potential by being placed at Level 3 on the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs)

Are there any pre-requisites?

You will need to hold a CYQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing and a current First Aid at Work qualification (4 day)

What will i learn?

Each of the units you complete along your way to the full Personal Training Award will teach you a variety of different skills. These vary from advanced training systems, conducting a fitness assessment and lifestyle reviews, being able to give precise and up to date nutritional advice, ability to design and implant training  sessions in a variety of outdoor environments and the ability to design a suitable business plan.

 

Unit 1 - Advanced Fitness Instructing

Candidates will learn:

  • Advanced exercise and fitness knowledge
  • Sport specific programming
  • Core stability
  • Advanced flexibility training methods
  • Advanced training systems

Internally assessed via submission of a 12 week plan, practical assessment and evaluation

Externally assessed via a theory paper (set and marked by CYQ)

 

Unit 2 - Client Lifestyle and Fitness Assessment

Candidates will learn:

  • How to accurately conduct an array of simple and complex fitness tests
  • How to summarise the test results and modify training programmes to focus on client weaknesses
  • The psychological stages of change your clients go through
  • How to overcome your clients barriers to exercising

Internally assessed via a practical assessment and case study

 

Unit 3 - Nutrition and Weight Management

Candidates will learn:

  • Principles of healthy eating
  • Principles of weight management and weight loss
  • How to tailor nutritional guidelines to suit your clients

Internally assessed via a case study

Externally assessed via a theory paper (set and marked by CYQ)

 

Unit 4 - Training in Different Environments

Candidates will learn:

  • How to use a range of portable equipment
  • How to design exercise and training programmes in a variety of outdoor settings
  • The different levels of walking and how to incorporate them into a training session

Internally assessed via a practical assessment

 

Unit 5 - Business and Marketing Skills

Candidates will learn:

  • How to understand consumer/client behaviour
  • How to develop a business strategy
  • How to compare market research
  • How to prepare a financial plan
  • How to implement a successful and cost effective marketing strategy

How is the course structured?

London Leisure College offers the following delivery options for this course:

 

Part time - you will attend 2 evenings a week for 20 weeks and cover all sections of the course

 

Online - Our NEW online course allows you the ultimate flexibility. Study online when and wherever you want and take as long as you want to complete the qualification. As soon as you enrol you will be given a log-in to gain access to the online course and then work your way through the sections after viewing 3-dimensional graphics, video clips and reading small sections of text. After you have completed all of the units online, you can book in for your training and assessment dates
