CYQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym)

Who is this course for?

This course covers exercise and fitness knowledge, structuring a programme, as well as how to instruct safely and effectively. It is an ideal starting point for those wishing to work as a fitness instructor in a health or leisure club. The demand for fitness instructors and personal trainers is increasing rapidly. It is a career that offers the chance to work flexibly to suit your needs.

Are there any pre-requisites?

Candidates should be at least 18 years old and have some awareness of using a gym.

What will i learn?

You will learn a variety of exercises and training methods as well as specific teaching and instructing skills on this course. You will become confident in designing a personalised training programme that takes into account the client's physical condition and goals.

The course has theoretical and practical units covering the following areas:

• Anatomy & Physiology
• The components and principles of fitness
• Relevant skills and knowledge needed to teach individuals and groups
• Gym Inductions
• Health & Safety
• Customer Care
• Exercise Technique and training methods

Specifically, candidates will learn how to:

• Identify the major bones, muscles and muscle actions of the body
• Explain the workings of the body's cardiovascular and energy systems
• Identify the components and principles of fitness
• Relate the Health & Safety at Work Act to the gym environment
• Identify good customer care and strategies for the adoption and maintenance of physical activity
• Plan, teach and evaluate a gym programme
• Demonstrate good personal technique and alignment on a range of CV equipment, fixed resistance machines and free weights

How is the course structured?

London Leisure College offers a variety of delivery options for this course:

5 day intensive - as soon as you enrol onto the course you will receive our distance learning pre-course reading manual. You will need to read and understand this before coming onto the 5 training days. Once your training is complete you will be ready for your assessment (1 day).

Part time - If an intensive course does not suit you, we offer the same qualifications 2 evenings a week for 15 weeks

Online - Our NEW online course allows you the ultimate flexibility. Study online when and wherever you want and take as long as you want to complete the qualification. As soon as you enrol you will be given a log-in to gain access to the online course and then work your way through the sections after viewing 3-dimensional graphics, video clips and reading small sections of text. After you have completed all of the units online, you can book in for your training and assessment dates (requires attendance to 2 training and 1 assessment dates).
