ESOL for working in travel and tourism
This course has been designed to introduce you to studying travel and tourism whilst continuing to improve your level of English.
Your ESOL classes will focus on travel and tourism vocabulary and phrases.
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This course has been designed for ESOL students who have already completed an ESOL qualification. The course will enable you to start studying travel and tourism whilst continuing ESOL study, helping you to improve your language skills. It is a combination of ESOL language classes and introductory units in travel and tourism
aRE THERE ANY PRE-REQUISITES?
In order to meet the demands of the course, all applicants must have completed a full time ESOL course to minimum of Entry Level 2.
Candidates must attend an interview and demonstrate a committed and service focussed attitude.
An Initial Assessment will be undertaken during the application process to assess literacy and numeracy levels.
wHAT WILL i STUDY?
Your ESOL classes will focus on travel and tourism vocabulary and phrases.
Your tourism classes will cover 3 units from City + Guilds Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Travel and Tourism;
103 Introduction to workplace communications skills for travel and tourism
107 Planning itineraries for travel and tourism
108 Introduction to the UK tourism industry
You will also study Application of Number key skill.
hOW IS THE COURSE STRUCTURED?
Full time (up to 4 days per week) for one year.
Portfolio, tutorial, workshop and enrichment sessions also form part of your timetable, to provide academic and pastoral support throughout the year.
All tourism units are set written tests and assignments by City and Guilds. These are marked by us according to set marking criteria.
Educational Visits
A number of educational visits will be arranged to assist you in completing your coursework, as well as experiencing real life travel and tourism companies. If you do not attend organised trips, you might find that you achieve a lower mark for your coursework.
Students under 18 must have a consent form signed by their parent or guardian.
A deposit of £40 per student must be paid when you enrol. This will be held by the college and put towards the cost of your trips. Every eligible student must apply to our Learning Support Fund, for help towards the costs of the trips.
When is the next course?
We are now accepting applications for courses starting in September 2009. Once you have been interviewed and offered a place, our enrolment will start on 2nd September 2009.
