Foundation Degree in Sports Therapy

Are there any pre-requisites?

  • Under 21s require 1 'A' level or NVQ3 equivalent qualification
  • Over 21s: must have experience within the Sports Therapy sector
  • A good command of English and Maths at Level 2
  • NVQ equivalent qualification

What will i learn?

 

The Foundation Degree programme in Sports Therapy is designed to develop the knowledge and skills required by those who practice in the Sports Therapy sector and those who aspire to do so in the future.

 

In conjunction with the study of additional courses, the Foundation degree aims to enable students to gain professionally recognised qualifications that will allow them to practice in the Sports Therapy sector.

 

The introduction of the Foundation Degree represents a new initiative designed to meet the widening participation agenda and developing skills needs in the economy. There is a growing demand for advanced vocational training in the sports industry and following the recent awarding by the IOC of the 2012 Olympic Games to London, it is anticipated that there will be a demand for qualified expertise both before and after the games in the area of Sports Therapy.

  •  Building Competence / Work-related Case Study
  • Principles of Practical Performance
  • Sports Massage Theory
  • Sports Massage Practical
Content - Year 2:
  •  The Sports Performer 2
  •  Professional Development Projector
  • Principles of Practical Performance 2
  • Applied Treatment and Management of Injuries
  • Equipment Assisted Therapy

When is the next course?

10 September 2007, at the college’s Charlton Athletic FC Campus (until around December 2007) and the college’s Eltham Centre (from around January 2008.)
 
 Length: 2 years full time (in addition to 8 hours contact time, students are expected to dedicate an additional 12 hours per week of self-study)
